Alabama expected to hire former UW assistant Tosh Lupoi
Nick Saban has a large staff at Alabama but apparently is adding long-time Pac-12 assistant Tosh Lupoi, who recently underwent an NCAA investigation.
Alabama is expected to hire Tosh Lupoi – the center of an NCAA recruiting probe while at Washington – as a football staff member, according to sources.
Lupoi visited Alabama's football campus recently and could wind up in the team’s personnel department, though his exact position is still unclear. He won't be a position coach.
Lupoi was an assistant at Cal and Washington for six seasons and was reportedly set to join Steve Sarkisian at USC before a Los Angeles Times report surfaced that Lupoi allegedly paid $4,500 for a recruit’s tutoring through a local high school track coach.
Lupoi denied the allegations and, after a six-week NCAA investigation, was absolved of wrongdoing. In a February interview with CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman, Lupoi said he's "excited to take the next step in life."
Washington paid Lupoi a $300,000 mutual separation buyout. Lupoi was considered a high-level recruiter while a defensive line coach in the Pac-12.
