Arizona St., Michigan St. schedule home-and-home for 2018-19
The Sun Devils will host Michigan State in 2018 then travel to Spartan Stadium in 2019.
Michigan State will begin the series by traveling to Tempe to play in Sun Devil Stadium on Sept. 8, 2018. The teams will play in Spartan Stadium on Sept. 14, 2019.
Arizona State had to move its 2018 non-conference agreement with San Diego State back one week to make room for the Spartans. According to FBSchedules.com, the addition of ASU completes Michigan State's non-conference schedule for 2018 -- the Spartans will also host Central Michigan and travel to USF.
"I am excited that we are able to announce the series with Michigan State University," Arizona State coach Todd Graham said in a statement. "Scheduling is very important to the overall success of a program and this is the type of matchup that we are seeking to fulfill our future dates. This series will help build our football program."
The two teams have only met twice and split the all-time series; a low-scoring 12-3 victory for Arizona State in East Lansing in 1985 and a 20-17 win for Michigan State in Tempe in 1986.
"We continue to be aggressive in our approach to non-conference scheduling, as we seek to bring the top programs in college football to our state," Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said. "The Arizona State series provides MSU alums in the West and Southwest with an opportunity to see the Spartans compete against one of the Pac-12's top football programs.
"Although Michigan State and Arizona State have only met twice on the football field, there are some strong historical ties between the programs, with Frank Kush, Darryl Rogers, Dick Tamburo and Chuck Fairbanks."
