Arizona State announces Sun Devil Stadium renovation plans
Arizona State plans on giving Sun Devil Stadium, where it has played since 1958, a facelift.
On Tuesday night Arizona State revealed plans for the renovation of Sun Devil Stadium. The school has already committed to paying $210 million for renovations, and it has started a public fundraising campaign to raise an additional $50 million in private donations.
“Arizona State University takes pride in its status as an elite institution with an elite athletics program,” said school president Michael Crow. “Sun Devil Stadium has been a landmark in the Valley for the last 56 years. The plan to renovate Sun Devil Stadium gives ASU an opportunity to increase our investment in the community and to set the standard for collegiate athletics facilities. We will need philanthropic support from our community in order to provide features that will take the game experience to a new level."
The school plans to renovate the stadium and "enhance the quality of the game-day experience." In order to do this plans include more legroom, seats and benches with backs, a new video board and sound system, and, of course, "an increased number of restrooms with enhanced quality."
I'm not entirely sure what an "enhanced quality" restroom would be, but I bet it involves a bidet.
Anyway, the renovations would not begin until 2015 and the Sun Devils will continue to play in Sun Devil Stadium throughout the renovations.
