Arizona will start freshman QB Anu Solomon vs. UNLV
Redshirt freshman Anu Solomon beat out USC transfer Jesse Scroggins and Jerrard Randall for the starting job in the season opener.
Redshirt freshman Anu Solomon was listed as the starter, beating out USC transfer Jesse Scroggins, junior Jerrard Randall and Texas transfer Connor Brewer for the job. Rich Rodriguez said he informed all four quarterbacks of the decision on Sunday night, though he indicated that Solomon might not be the only quarterback who plays against UNLV on Friday night.
No #ArizonaWildcats freshman QB has ever started a season-opener in the Pac-10/12 years. Anu Solomon will change that.— Anthony Gimino (@AGWildcatReport) August 25, 2014
Solomon was a three-star prospect coming out of Las Vegas in the 2013 recruiting class. While he has won the first snap for the season opener, it would not be surprising at all to see Scroggins, a senior, on the field at some point in the first month of play. Arizona gets UNLV, Nevada and Cal at home before an off week that precedes a Thursday night trip to Oregon on Oct. 2.
