Auburn's LaDarius Owens likely out for rest of spring

When it comes to spring practice, there are plenty of things a coach wants to get accomplished with his team in preparation for the summer and fall, but without a doubt the most important thing is to get through it with everybody healthy. Unfortunately for Auburn, the Tigers couldn't even get through the first day.

Defensive end LaDarius Owens is likely to miss the rest of spring practice due to an undisclosed injury he suffered. The good news is that Gus Malzahn believes Owens will be just fine by the time the season rolls around, but you'd still like to see Owens on the field this spring. With the departure of Dee Ford to the NFL, Owens, a senior, is expected to not only bring production to the defensive line, but experience as well.

Owens played in all 14 games for the Tigers last season, finishing the year with 30 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and 11 QB hurries.

He wasn't the only Tiger absent from practice, either, as linebacker Anthony Swain was not on the field. Malzahn would only say that Swain wasn't practicing and did not give a reason for his absence.
