Boston College RB Andre Williams sets school, ACC records
Andre Williams ran for 339 yards on 42 carries, setting new single-game records and setting a new ACC single-season rushing record.
Boston College running back Andre Williams entered Saturday's game against N.C. State as the nation's leading rusher. He finished with new single-game school records, a single-season ACC record and possibly some consideration in the Heisman Trophy balloting.
|ACC Season Rushing Yards|
|1,810||Andre Williams, Boston Coll.||2013|
|1,798||Thomas Jones, Virginia||1999|
|1,720||Don McCauley, N. Carolina||1970|
|1,709||David Wilson, Va. Tech||2011|
|1,655||Ryan Williams, Va. Tech||2009|
Williams carried the ball 42 times for 339 yards and two touchdowns in Boston College's 38-21 win. The senior from Schnecksville, Pa. now has three of the top ten rushing performances in FBS play this season, with Saturday's performance overtaking Jordan Lynch for the top spot. Williams broke Mike Cloud's single-season school record and Thomas Jones' single-season ACC record; and with two games remaining on the schedule there should be enough snaps left to pad that lead in the record books.
The great thing about Williams is that he is a perfect fit for what Steve Addazio wants to do on offense. Williams is as good exploding into open space as he is trucking over defenders, as we saw on Saturday against the Wolfpack.
So why shouldn't Williams receive Heisman consideration? The aforementioned single-game accomplishments throughout the season have been headline-worthy, but he is also a key piece of Boston College's rebound this season. Williams could, and should, at least receive consideration for one of the three spots on a Heisman voter's ballot.
The Eagles, 6-4 overall with game against Syracuse and Maryland left on the schedule, are now bowl eligible for the first time since 2010 -- quite an accomplishment in year one of the Steve Addazio era.
