CBSSports.com Players of the Week (Nov. 11)
Colorado State RB Kapri Bibbs, Duke DB DeVon Edwards, USC WR Nelson Agholor and UCLA LB Myles Jack earned CBSSports.com Player of the Week honors.
Every Monday, we will highlight the best and brightest performances from the weekend with the CBSSports.com Players of the Week. The honors will run through the end of the regular season right up until the CBS Sports All-America Team announcement on Dec. 17.
Offensive Player of the Week - Colorado State running back Kapri Bibbs
Kapri Bibbs has come on strong in recent weeks for Colorado State, exploding into the national spotlight on Saturday with 312 yards and four touchdowns to help lead the Rams to a 38-17 win against Nevada. Bibbs' career performance, in just his fourth career start, set a new school record and is the second-best rushing performance of the 2013 season (Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch ran for 316 yards last month). Bibbs also now leads all FBS players with 19 rushing touchdowns, picking up 13 of those in Colorado State's last four games.
DeVon Edwards recorded 10 tackles, one pass break-up and ran his first two career interceptions back for touchdowns on back-to-back plays from scrimmage in Duke's 38-20 win over N.C. State. The freshman safety added a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown to become the first FBS player in a decade to score three non-offensive touchdowns in a single game. Before Edwards began his damage, NC State led 13-10 and this game was very much up in the air. Edwards' return gave Duke a 17-10 lead, then his back-to-back interception return touchdowns with just over three minutes left sealed the for Duke -- now 7-2 and hosting Miami on Saturday.
Nelson Agholor ran back two punts for a touchdown against Cal, helping pile on the points in a 62-28 rout to give the Trojans a fourth win in five games under interim coach Ed Orgeron. Agholor had returns of 75 and 93 yards for scores, helping the Trojans tied the FBS single-game record with three punt returns for touchdowns -- the third being a blocked punt returned for a touchdown from 14 yards out. USC's success since dismissing Lane Kiffin in September has kept the Trojans in the hunt for the Pac-12 South, though the team needs a win against Stanford at home on Saturday to remain in contention.
If UCLA linebacker Myles Jack continues to perform at a high level on both sides of the ball, we may need to create a new Myles of Jack of the Week award. The freshman linebacker had eight tackles, two pass break-ups and fumble recovery on defense, then added 120 yards a touchdown on six carries in his offensive debut at running back. According to UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, Jack took his first reps at running back on Wednesday. By Saturday, he was breaking off 66-yard touchdown runs. UCLA is still alive in the Pac-12 South title hunt, but need to win out (Washington, Arizona State, at USC) to jump the Sun Devils in the standings.
