Offensive Player of the Week: Boston College running back Andre Williams
The government shutdown did not stop Army from traveling to Boston College, but the Black Knights might have rather stayed home if they knew what Andre Williams had in store on Saturday. Williams carried the ball 30 times for 263 yards and five touchdowns in the Eagles' 48-27 win, leading all rushers in FBS for the week and tying a single-game school record for rushing touchdowns. Boston College needed every carry from Williams, as the Black Knights finished with 427 total yards of offense themselves and even held a lead in the third quarter.
Defensive Player of the Week: Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy
With road tests against LSU and Missouri in the next two weeks, Florida delivered arguably their best team performance of the season in a 30-10 victory against Arkansas. Florida may have the best secondary in the country, and Saturday's win saw a huge performance from one of its leaders, junior Loucheiz Purifoy. Purifoy recorded four tackles, one sack, three pass backups, a forced fumble and returned interception 42 yards for a touchdown in the win. Arkansas was forced to throw the ball more in the second half due to the offensive success of Solomon Patton and others, and the Gators responded by allowing just three points the entire second half. Up next for Purifoy: Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr..
Specialist of the Week: Stanford WR/KR Ty Montgomery
Looking at the box score, many have pointed out that Washington outgained Stanford 489-284 in the 31-28 win for the fifth-ranked Cardinal. If you want to look for the missing stat that tipped the scale in favor of Stanford, look no further than Ty Montgomery's 204 return yards. With a kickoff return touchdown to start the game and 60 yard return that set up another touchdown in the second half, Montgomery was about the only weapon the Huskies' defense did not have an answer for on Saturday night. He also added three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball twice for 30 yards.
Rookie of the Week: Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston added his name to the Heisman Trophy discussion while the Seminioles' defense pitched a shutout in their final contest against Maryland as ACC opponents. Winston was phenomenal; putting up career highs for yards (393) and touchdowns (5) while completing more than 70 percent of his passes and leading eight straight possessions to the end zone for a touchdown. Next time we see Winston on the field will be Oct. 19 in Death Valley, when his first meeting with Clemson will likely set the course for the rest of Florida State's season.
