CBSSports.com Players of the Week (Sept. 30)
Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, Arizona State safety Alden Darby, Oregon wide receiver Bralon Addison and Arkansas running back Alex Collins earned Player of the Week honors.
Every Monday, we will highlight the best and brightest performances from the weekend with the CBSSports.com Players of the Week. The honors will run through the end of the regular season right up until the CBS Sports All-America Team announcement on Dec. 17.
Offensive Player of the Week: Georgia QB Aaron Murray
Murray was sensational in the 44-41 duel with LSU on Saturday. He completed 20 of 34 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns while adding a one-yard touchdown run just before halftime that gave Georgia a 24-17 lead at the break. Murray has excelled in two victories over Top 10 teams in the last three games, and moved to No. 2 in SEC history with 11,659 yards of total offense. Murray was a perfect 4-4 on the Bulldogs' game-winning touchdown drive in the final minutes, finding Justin Scott-Wesley wide open in a coverage breakdown for a 25 touchdown as the eventual game-winning score.
Defensive Player of the Week: Arizona State DB Alden Darby
Darby has no vendetta against USC, but the Long Beach native sure seems to have the Trojans number these last two years. In 2012, Darby returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown in the Coliseum. He followed that performance with another career night on Saturday; intercepting two passes, returning one for a 46-yard touchdown, forcing and recovering a fumble, and totaling seven tackles as the Sun Devils defense racked up 17 points off turnovers in the 62-41 win that resulted in Lane Kiffin's dismissal.
Specialist of the Week: Oregon WR/PR Bralon Addison
With Marcus Mariota at the helm, the Ducks have been incredibly efficient turning possessions into points. If you have any hope of beating Oregon, you simply cannot allow a special teams touchdown. Cal, unfortunately, did this twice on Saturday night during a 55-16 loss in the driving rain. Bralon Addison ran two punts back for a touchdown, one 75-yard return in the second quarter and one 67-yard return in the third quarter, as Oregon methodically wore down and pulled away from the Bears. Cal may not be a team ready to threaten Oregon's reign in the Pac-12 North, but they got no help allowing the Ducks to continue to rack up points with Mariota on the sideline.
The Razorbacks true freshman running back earned this honor for the second time this season after recording his fourth 100-yard performance in his short five-game career. Collins ran 14 times for 116 yards and a touchdown against Texas A&M, driving an offensive performance that pushed the Aggies in a 45-33 loss. No running back in the SEC is carrying a heavier load right now, as Collins leads the league with 20 rushing attempts per game. The good news for Arkansas fans is that he's delivering on that opportunity, averaging 5.97 yards per carry and ranking No. 16 nationally with 119.4 yards per game.
