We've seen a few cheap shots in the first couple weeks of the college football season. We've also seen a player ejected for making contact with an official.

But we haven't seen anything like this, in a game between California junior colleges.

Mount San Antonio College offensive lineman Bernard Schirmer was arrested after punching an official Saturday night during a game against Ventura College, police told the Ventura County Star. The punch, which can be seen in the video below, is said to have occurred in the third quarter when the official, whose name was not released, tried to break up a verbal altercation involving Schirmer.

As you can see, it was a brutal punch and the official went down hard.

Schirmer was ejected from the game and arrested on suspicion of battery. Because the event became a police matter, video review was used in the process for something other than football.

Per the Star, "Under California Community College Athletic Association bylaws, striking a game official is punishable by a five-year ban."
