As we have for the past several weeks, including last week for the first College Football Playoff Rankings release, we are predicting what the top 25 will look like Tuesday night.

Here, we try to emphasize the same criteria the committee uses. That will be difficult because, as we have learned, the committee can be all over the map. Sometimes, it decides that head-to-head record matters; sometimes, it doesn't. Sometimes, strength of schedule matters; sometimes, it doesn't. Sometimes, relative dominance matters; sometimes, it doesn't. Sometimes it's about game control -- whatever that is -- or recency bias or ... ah, you get the idea.

What we have learned is that this process is highly subjective. It is much more subjective than the process that the basketball committee uses, which is what the football committee was modeled after.

With all of that in mind, here is how I think the top 25 will look this week.

Note: Predictions in this post are based only on results to this point, so they do not reflect the final forecast for the playoff, which can be found here.

1. Alabama (Last week: 1): The Crimson Tide aren't unbeatable, but they look more so every week.

2. Clemson (2): Deshaun Watson left the Syracuse game early with a dinged up shoulder. He wasn't needed.

3. Michigan (3): The Wolverines made turtle soup out of Maryland. They are just coasting along until they go to Ohio State.

4. Washington (5): The Huskies felt slighted at being behind Texas A&M. While I am not picking it, don't be surprised if Ohio State jumps them this week.

5. Ohio State (6): The Buckeyes led the style points parade this week with a 62-3 dismantling of former No. 10 Nebraska.

6. Louisville (7): Bobby Petrino whined that his team should have scored more against Florida State. That would not have made their schedule any stronger.

7. Wisconsin (8): The Badgers finally won at Northwestern after a 17-year drought. It's not quite the Cubs, but it's still noteworthy.

8. Auburn (9): The Tigers struggled at Vanderbilt this week but still look like the only obstacle between Alabama and an undefeated season.

9. Penn State (12): The Nittany Lions pounded Iowa and looks to be on their way to a major bowl.

10. Texas A&M (4): Yikes, Aggies. Losing to Mississippi State is going to knock them down a peg or two.

11. Oklahoma (14): OU handled Iowa State and should remain the top rated Big 12 team. The Sooners are still pretty far from a playoff spot though.

12. Nebraska (10): The Cornhuskers lost Tommy Armstrong and lost big to Ohio State. There is still a shot at a New Year's Six game, but the Cornhuskers no longer control their own destiny in the Big Ten West division.

13. Colorado (15): The Buffaloes were probably ranked a bit too high last week, but if the committee likes them that much to begin with, they should be in for a little boost this week.

14. Florida (11): The Gators could have clinched the SEC East but got drilled at Arkansas. They still control their own destiny but are banged up pretty good heading into this week.

15. Utah (16): Nothing really changed this week to think that Utah and the next five teams on this list should see their relative positions change in the mind of the committee.

16. Oklahoma State (18): The committee has to be treating the loss to Central Michigan as a win, or at least not a loss, to have the Cowboys this high.

17. Virginia Tech (19): The Hokies just need to beat Georgia Tech and Virginia at home to win the ACC Coastal division.

18. West Virginia (20): The Mountaineers are underrated based on what they have done so far, but beating Kansas shouldn't sway the committee to change that this week.

19. North Carolina (21): UNC is tied for first in the ACC Coastal division with Virginia Tech, but the Hokies hold the tiebreaker. The Tar Heels should be favored in each remaining game.

20. Florida State (22): The Seminoles had Clemson on the ropes but couldn't finish the job. There haven't been too many years lately where November rolls around and they are looking up at Syracuse and Wake Forest in the standings.

21. LSU (13): This seems like a harsh drop for a team that lost 10-0 to No. 1 Alabama, but the Tigers' only win over a team that is currently above .500 is the one over 5-4 Southern Miss, which just got drilled at home by Charlotte.

22. Western Michigan (23): The Broncos are in a good place at the moment -- the top-rated Group of Five conference leader. It will be interesting to see if they can hold off a one-loss Mountain West champion should one emerge.

23. Boise State (24): These Broncos do not control their own destiny to win the Mountain West, but if they end up doing so, they are the likely Group of Five representative in the New Year's Six.

24. Washington State (25): Wazzu is fortunate to be ranked considering they started the season with a loss to FCS Eastern Washington and Boise State. The Cougars haven't lost since, though.

25. Tennessee (NR): The Vols broke their three-game losing streak last week. We'll ignore the fact that the win was over Tennessee Tech. Tennessee still has a strong overall schedule.

Will drop out: Baylor (17)
