Ex-Ole Miss OL Austin Golson transferring to Auburn as walk-on
Ole Miss will allow Austin Golson to transfer to Auburn as a walk-on according to NCAA transfer rules.
"We wish him the very best," Freeze said in a statement released by the school, adding that Golson will follow "normal transfer rules." The 6-foot-5, 309-pound former four-star prospect requested the transfer to relocate closer to home (Pratville, Ala.) as both of his grandfathers are dealing with health issues.
In order to compete for Auburn in 2014, the sophomore offensive tackle will need a hardship waiver from the NCAA. Otherwise, Golson will not be eligible for the Tigers until 2015. However, this transfer seems to be tied much closer the family situation, as Golson told the Clarion-Ledger last month that that "my family comes before football."
Golson appeared in 12 games as a freshman for the Rebels in 2013 as a reserve right guard. At the end of spring practice he had moved back to tackle and was expected to compete with junior college signee Fahn Cooper for the starting right tackle job this fall.
