Ex-Texas coordinator Manny Diaz to become Louisiana Tech DC
Manny Diaz will become Louisiana Tech's new defensive coordinator, according to CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman.
Former Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, fired by Mack Brown just two games into the 2013 season, will become the new defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech, according to CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman.

Louisiana Tech made the hire official in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
"I am very excited Manny Diaz is joining our staff," Bulldogs head coach Skip Holtz said. "He brings great experiences with a lot of success at a lot of different stops. He brings excitement, a passion for the game, plenty of experience and a reputation for success that precedes him. I look forward to working with him and welcome him to the LA Tech Family."

Texas' issues on defense in 2012 and 2013 hurt Diaz's stock in the coaching carousel, but prior to his arrival in Austin many tabbed Diaz as a coach on the rise. His work in one season at Mississippi State and several years N.C. State have been career highlights, and in 2011 the Longhorns had the best defense in the Big 12, ranking No. 9 nationally with 4.60 yards per play allowed.
Diaz was fired after Texas allowed 679 yards of total offense, including 550 rushing yards, in a loss to BYU on Sept. 7 and replaced by Greg Robinson.
Defensive coordinator Kim Dameron left Louisiana Tech earlier this month to become Eastern Illinois' next head coach. The Bulldogs also lost linebackers coach Jeff Koonz, who has joined Tommy Tuberville's staff at Cincinnati.
Louisiana Tech finished 4-8 in 2013, the Bulldogs first season of Conference USA play. The defense averaged 5.30 yards per play allowed, ranking No. 6 in the conference and No. 42 among FBS teams.
