Florida to play Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2014
The Florida Gators must play SEC West powers LSU and Alabama next season. The league releases its eight-game schedule today.
Florida’s title run in 2014 just got harder.
The Gators will play at Alabama on the fourth weekend of next season, CBSSports.com has learned. The fourth weekend would be Sept. 20.
The Gators and Tide faced off in the 2008 and 2009 SEC title games in Atlanta and last played on Oct. 1, 2011, a 38-10 Alabama win in Gainesville.
Florida already plays SEC West power LSU annually as part of the league’s 6-1-1 conference system (six divisional opponents, one permanent crossover rival and one wild-card game).
The SEC will release its conference schedule today, followed by league schools announcing their entire 2014 slate. It’s uncertain whether Alabama and Texas A&M – which currently have 11 games for that season – will roll out a full schedule.
South Carolina-Texas A&M and Missouri-Arkansas will be permanent rivals under the new schedule.
The Tuscaloosa News reported in June that Florida-Alabama would likely be in the 2014 SEC rotation.
In other SEC scheduling news, TexAgs.com reported Texas A&M would host LSU on Thanksgiving and would travel to South Carolina on the season-opening Thursday night tilt.
