It's the offseason, so it's officially Jim Harbaugh's season. The third-year Michigan coach has one final spring practice trip up his sleeve before a new rule will prohibit such expeditions.

Michigan announced on Monday that it will send the football team to Rome for a "week of learning and spring practice" toward the end of its winter semester in April. In all, the team will spend three of its 15 allotted spring drills training at AS Roma, the city's professional football (AKA soccer) club.

"We were looking to provide our student-athletes with a great educational, cultural and international football experience," said Harbaugh in the release. "I am excited that our student-athletes will be able to take advantage of this amazing educational opportunity, be exposed to another culture, and be ambassadors for the United States and the University of Michigan during our visit to Rome."

The news comes a few days after Power Five conferences voted 58-22 to prohibit off-campus practices during vacation periods. Unofficially known as the "Jim Harbaugh rule," the proposal was passed as a result of Harbaugh taking his team to IMG Academy in Florida for a week of spring practices last offseason. However, this trip will fall towards the end of the semester, which ends before April 18.

The trip is being called a "special educational and football experience." Which it is. In the past, Harbaugh's trips had an obvious recruiting hook, in the same way there was a recruiting hook to satellite camps, which Harbaugh helped make famous.
