Jimbo Fisher, Art Briles engage in cross-media days smack talk

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Social media allows smack talk to be disseminated to fans throughout the country in seconds, allowing for instant reactions and occasionally some classic back-and-forth banter between coaches.

(More often than not it is a misunderstanding, but allow us to indulge you since it's still July and we can't wait for football).

In the midst of a discussion on the College Football Playoff format, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher complained at the lack of uniformity with league schedules and conference championships. Here's how the back-and-forth played out in person:

Question: Are you in favor of expanding the playoff to 8 teams?

Fisher: I'm not. Do I think inevitably it will? Yeah I do. But really, are you not in eight now? Because you got a conference championship, you're in more than that right now. You got a playoff game there.

And by the way, I think every conference should have to have one. We got a championship where not everyone plays the same number of games and does the same things. I think it's ridiculous.

The quote was spread on social media, and resulted in a response from West Virginia starting quarterback, and former Seminole, Clint Trickett.

Then, someone relayed the Fisher comments -- or, social media's version of them, to Baylor coach Art Briles at Big 12 Media Days. Needless to say, he was displeased.

No need to point fingers here. Instead let us all imagine how awesome a Florida State-Baylor national semifinal would be on Jan. 1, 2015. It's our best opportunity to see this fake beef squashed.
