Lane Kiffin on USC coaching search: 'It should be Ed Orgeron'
Lane Kiffin told ESPNLA 710AM in a radio interview that Ed Orgeron should be the next head coach at USC and the Trojans will beat UCLA.
In the days since USC knocked off Stanford with a game-winning field goal in the Coliseum, players, staff, and fans have voiced their support for the permanent hiring of Ed Orgeron as the Trojans next head coach.
On Thursday, former USC coach Lane Kiffin told ESPNLA 710 that Orgeron should be his successor as the Trojans permanent head coach.
Lane Kiffin on who should be USC's next HC: "That's easy. It should be Ed Orgeron--How can you even possibly think of anybody else."— ESPNLA 710 Radio (@ESPNLA710) November 21, 2013
Kiffin went on to predict that USC will win out, beating Colorado and UCLA to finish 10-3 on the season. That would give the Trojans a 7-1 record under Coach O, the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator under Kiffin.
USC has interviewed former linebacker and current Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, but athletic director Pat Haden is publically addressing the search as though it is far from over. Haden addressed Orgeron's candidacy on KFWB's "Trojans Live" earlier this week. There Haden told fans, among other things, that he received 136 emails after the Stanford win supporting Oregon as the next head coach.
"The good news is we had a lot of time to think about this thing and to really open the universe to potential opportunities because this is a really good job," Haden said. "What Ed had done has been absolutely remarkable. He is clearly in our eyesight. We understand. It’s not just the fans. We’re sophisticated enough and know enough about this to understand the attributes that he has and he’s a known quantity. But my job is to find the best coach of USC, not just for this year, for five or six or eight games or next year, but hopefully for five, 10, or 15 years.
"So we’re going to go through this process we have and at the end of the day, I think we’ll have a rational decision."
USC visits Colorado this weekend, with a kickoff set for 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Trojans will then return home to host UCLA in the Coliseum on Nov. 30.
