LSU, Wisconsin talking 2014 in Houston, Lambeau between 2016-18

DESTIN, Fla. -- The new working plan for Wisconsin and LSU: To play in Houston’s Reliant Stadium in 2014, Green Bay’s Lambeau Field some time between 2016-18, according to LSU athletics director Joe Alleva.

Nothing is finalized but a deal is close, per Alleva. The likeliest year for the Lambeau game is 2017.

The Tigers and Badgers have been working on an agreement for some time. Fox26 Sports reported in early May that both sides would meet in Reliant in 2014, but an LSU official told NOLA.com the Tigers were talking with several parties about a Houston game.

Wisconsin’s Barry Alvarez was out of the office Wednesday and not immediately available for comment.

Neutral-site games are trendy in part because of the payouts. The average per-team revenue from such games among power-conference teams is roughly $3 million-$4 million, according to several administrators familiar with the process.

Alleva is excited about a game in Lambeau but needed a Houston game in return.

“I think it will be great for our fans,” Alleva said.

Wisconsin currently has one opening on its 2014 schedule.
