Massachusetts fires coach Charley Molnar
UMass announced on Thursday that it had dismissed coach Charley Molnar.
I hope Charley Molnar enjoyed his Christmas because the day after sure won't be one to celebrate.
Massachusetts announced on Thursday that it had dismissed Molnar as head coach.
"We want to thank Charley Molnar for his service and the extraordinary time and energy he devoted to coaching the Minutemen as we entered competition in the Football Bowl Subdivision," said UMass athletic director John McCutcheon in a statement. "It has become clear, however, that we must improve our performance in several areas and move in a new direction to ensure success in the FBS. Going forward, we must build a strong foundation to win on the field and stimulate enthusiasm and support for the program throughout the university community."
The school also said its search for Molnar's replacement will begin immediately.
Molnar was hired at UMass before the 2012 season when the school was completing its transition from the FCS to the FBS and joining the MAC. In his two seasons at the school the Minutemen went 2-22 with a 2-14 record in the MAC.
