After weeks of speculation Michigan coach Brady Hoke finally made the suspensions of running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and defensive end Frank Clark official on Friday.
"Fitzgerald Toussaint and Frank Clark have been suspended for one game and will not make the trip to Dallas for Saturday's game," said Hoke in a release.
"The decision was not easy, but I feel it is in the best interest of this program and for these kids, and those always will be my priorities. We have choices every day, and you have to be accountable to this program, your teammates, your family and the University of Michigan.
"These are our sons. These are real lives, and I think too often many people forget that. It's not always just about football, or a football decision. It's about teaching life lessons, and if this helps these kids or someone else make a right decision later, then we've won."
Of course, winning the game won't be nearly as easy now.
Toussaint is Michigan's starting running back, and he rushed for 1,041 yards and 9 touchdowns for the Wolverines last season. Without Toussaint in the backfield it will be much easier for the Alabama defense to key on Denard Robinson.
Sophomore back Thomas Rawls was listed as Michigan's second running back on a depth chart released last week, and it seems he and senior Vincent Smith will fill in for Toussaint.
Frank Clark was listed as a backup at defensive end after making 10 tackles with the Wolverines in his freshman season. While he's not a starter, Michigan could use as many bodies as possible going against the Alabama offensive line.
