Missouri's undefeated mark put to the test again
Missouri will get tested again as it tries to remain unbeaten.
It will be tough sledding for a trio of unbeaten teams as they try to hold on to that status. Missouri Tigers and Oregon Ducks will faced ranked opponents at home, while Texas Longhorns Tech takes to the road to face Oklahoma Sooners .
Last week, I was a 3-4 straight up and 4-3 vs. the spread, which is a reminder why I don't bet. That makes the season total 35-13 overall and 24-22-2 against the spread.
Clemson Tigers at Maryland Terrapins (+16.5). The Tigers are coming off an historic beatdown in what was supposed to be a big game agianst Florida Gators State. Clemson's M.O. would normally be to have a let down in the next game, essentially letting the Noles beat them twice. Against just about any other team, I might pick the upset, but Maryland is missing about a quarter of its roster for this game. Clemson wins and covers.
Texas Tech Red Raiders at Oklahoma (-6.5). Texas Tech's 7-0start is a house of cards. They've played just one team with a winning record, mighty Texas State Bobcats (4-3). The Red Raiders are putting up big numbers on offense, except against the one competent defense it played. TCU Horned Frogs held them to 20 in Lubbock. Playing the Sooners in Norman is a huge step up in class, one I expect Tech isn't ready for yet. Oklahoma wins and covers.
Texas at TCU (-2). TCU is favored? Interesting. If the line were bigger, I might have made this my upset pick, but Tom Fornelli is on it anyway. Texas has turned things around since I witnessed the home disaster against Ole Miss Rebels . Case McCoy will be forced into action again as David Ash remains out with an injury. TCU's defense is tough, but not tough enough to overcome its moribund offense. Texas wins and covers.
UCLA Bruins at Oregon (-23.5). Wonder why Oregon is fourth in the computers? They haven't really played anyone yet, except Washington Huskies , which is the only team to hold the Ducks under 55. The Huskies slowed Oregon down to 45 points. UCLA will bring some defense to this party, but not enough to actually win. Oregon wins, UCLA covers.
Stanford Cardinal at Oregon State Beavers (+4). The Beavers are another largely untested team. They are 6-1, but lost to arguably the second best team they played, FCS Eastern Washington. They did win a Utah Utes though, which is something Stanford can't claim. The match up of OSU's Sean Mannion and Brandin Cooks vs the tough Stanford defense should been fun to watch. Stanford wins and covers.
South Carolina Gamecocks
at Missouri (-2.5).
did a great job in his debut as starting QB for Mizzou, filling in for the injured
. He helped the Tigers hang 36 on Florida, which is one of the toughest defenses in the SEC. The Gamecocks will bring Jadaveon Clowney after Mauk this week, but won't be bringing QB
along. He's out with an injury. That's pretty much the story of the SEC East this year. Missouri wins and covers.
