Alabama approved a contract extension for Nick Saban on Tuesday, adding three years and a pay bump to his deal to be the Crimson Tide head football coach.

The school's Board of Trustees approved the extension, pay raise and new contracts for Alabama's assistant football coaches. Saban's deal now runs through 2024, and according to AL.com, his annual pay will be at $7.1 million per year for the next two years. He also received a $4 million bonus just for signing the extension.

"Terry and I are pleased and happy to agree to the contract extension The University of Alabama has offered us, ensuring our time here in Tuscaloosa will continue for many more years," Saban said in a release.

"This has become our home and we are looking forward to finishing our career at Alabama. I want to thank President Bell, Greg Byrne, our athletic administration, football staff and the entire University community for all of their support, which has been instrumental in the success of our organization. We are extremely proud of the young men who have represented the Crimson Tide on the football field, and more importantly, what they have been able to accomplish in their lives off the field because of their involvement in our program."

In 2014, the school agreed to pay Saban $6.9 million per year until 2021. Then the industry-leader in compensation, Saban was the second-highest paid coach in 2016 behind Jim Harbaugh, who makes $9 million per year as Michigan's coach.

Saban is 65 years old and will have the opportunity to finish his career as Alabama's coach for as long as he wants. That's the kind of leverage you have with four national titles and 119 wins in 10 seasons as the man in charge in Tuscaloosa.

This most recent update to the football budget is notable for its investment in its assistants, including a major pay bump for linebackers coach and top recruiter Tosh Lupoi, a non-coordinator who is set to make nearly $1 million next season.

In fact, Lupoi's new salary not only puts him on the head coach pay scale, but ahead of more than 50 FBS head coaches according to the 2016 database.
