Coming off a season in which it went 12-2 and earned an Orange Bowl berth, Northern Illinois is launching a Heisman campaign for quarterback Jordan Lynch. The campaign will be called "Lynch For 6" and features a website and a Twitter account.

"I think a Heisman campaign isn't [based] off of what he could do or will do, but what he's done," said Huskies coach Rod Carey in the NIU press release. "What he's already accomplished in one year as a starter is more than what some people do in a career. I know that every coach in America would sure love to have a leader like Jordan on their team."

Of course, there's a large difference between starting a Heisman campaign and actually winning a Heisman Trophy. After all, Northern Illinois began a campaign for Lynch last season and he finished in seventh place.

That was after Lynch accounted for the bulk of his 4,953 total yards and 44 touchdowns and led Northern Illinois to a MAC title and that Orange Bowl berth. So if that kind of performance can only get Lynch a seventh-place finish, what kind of year would he need in 2013 to qualify for the trip to New York?

Particularly when the majority of college football fans only know Lynch from his performance against Florida State, which was far and away his worst of the year.

Of course, just because Lynch's chances of winning the Heisman aren't very good doesn't mean the school shouldn't launch this campaign. He's not going to win, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be rewarded for what he's accomplished with the Huskies, and that's exactly what is going on here.
