Notre Dame suspends Atkinson, Brown for Pinstripe Bowl
Notre Dame running back George Atkinson and cornerback Jalen Brown have been suspended for the Pinstripe Bowl.
Notre Dame announced the suspensions of running back George Atkinson and cornerback Jalen Brown on Saturday morning. Neither will play in Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers. The reasoning for both suspensions was a violation of team rules, though George Atkinson took to Twitter Saturday morning to go into more detail.
In a tweet that was quickly deleted after posting, Atkinson said "For those of you who are wondering I was suspended from today's game for texting friends and family during team meal, as I did all season."
Atkinson is second on the Irish in rushing yards, with 555 and he's also scored three rushing touchdowns this season while catching seven passes for another 55 yards. However, he's seen his work load decrease. After carrying the ball 18 times against Arizona State on Oct. 5, Atkinson has had only 37 carries over Notre Dame's last six games, never reaching double-digits in carries since.
Brown, a junior, has appeared in only two games for the Irish this season.
