Orange, Cotton picks: Buckeyes and Cowboys come through
Ohio State and Clemson is one of the more intriguing match-ups of bowl season. That game and an old Big 12 rematch in today's bowl picks blog.
I had a rough stretch through New Year's Day and, like a lot of folks, whiffed badly on the Oklahoma-Alabama pick, putting me at one over .500 for the season against the spread. Here are today's guesses:
Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma State 27, Missouri 23: Old Big 12 rivals meet again. Honestly, we did our picks so long ago, I don't recall even what my reasoning for picking the Pokes was here -- if I had any other than a hunch that day. Right now, I'm having second thoughts, but I'll stick with the Cowboys who have the better secondary and come down to Texas riding a three-game bowl winning streak.
Orange Bowl: Ohio State 35, Clemson 30: Tajh Boyd is the better passer and Braxton Miller is the better runner and has the better sidekick in Carlos Hyde, the bruising running back. I also think Miller has the better coach and that's why I picked the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer is 7-1 in bowl games.
