As we have noted here before at the Eye On College Football, the Heisman Trophy can't be won in September. It is a long season, and many voters have shown the tendency to base their decisions on how a contender plays late in the season. But while the Heisman can't be won in September, it can be lost.
Disappointing performances in early losses for Michigan Wolverines 's Denard Robinson and Wisconsin Badgers 's Montee Ball have opened up the Heisman race. Southern California Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley stands alone as the frontrunner, but the first two weeks have provided plenty of evidence to support several new faces in the Heisman Watch.
CBSSports.com Heisman Expert Chris Huston (@HeismanPundit) joins me on the podcast to break down some of the contenders across the country and what opportunities they have to help or hurt their stock in the weeks ahead.
The CBSSports.com/HeismanPundit.com Straw Poll still has Barkley on top, but Chris explains how UCLA Bruins running back Johnathan Franklin could present some competition for his cross-town rival. Tune in as we also discuss the advantages of a "Heisman Resume Year" and the impact of regional voting on the 2012 race.
