Rash of dismissals in college football enough to field All-Castoff Team

The news that Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed from LSU Tigers on Friday sent a shock throughout most of the college football world but he certainly was not the only high profile player to be kicked off a team this offseason. In fact, there have been enough players given the boot that you could field a pretty decent starting 22 (North Alabama will certainly try to grab a few to find out).

Head coach

Bobby Petrino ( Arkansas Razorbacks )

He might have to adjust his offense a little bit but should have plenty of weapons at wide receiver and running back.

Quarterback

Zeke Pike ( Auburn Tigers )

Ranked as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the country by MaxPreps, he was dismissed at Auburn before even taking a snap. He's headed to Louisville Cardinals , reportedly as a tight end.

Running backs

Isaiah Crowell ( Georgia Bulldogs ) and Michael Dyer (Auburn / Arkansas State Red Wolves )

Crowell rushed for 850 yards as a freshman while Dyer put together back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons at Auburn before winding his way to and from Arkansas State. It speaks to the depth at the position when Mike Bellamy ( Clemson Tigers ) and Ed Wesley ( TCU Horned Frogs ) aren't even going to make this team.

Wide receivers

Darryl Stonum ( Michigan Wolverines ), Devon Smith ( Penn State Nittany Lions ), Kameel Jackson ( Oklahoma Sooners )

Stonum made 25 starts while in Ann Arbor and was a dangerous return man as well. Smith was listed atop the depth chart at wideout before being dismissed following a 2011 campaign that had 25 receptions for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jackson caught 12 passes for 165 yards as a true freshman last season and started in a bowl game.

Tight end

Cameron Clear ( Tennessee Volunteers )

Started the final two games for the Vols, had one catch for four yards in 12 appearances.

Offensive line

Phil Smith ( Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ), Michael Bowie ( Oklahoma State Cowboys ), Tyler Horn (TCU), Mylon Brown and Logan Stewart ( Vanderbilt Commodores )

Smith was a two-year starter at right tackle while Bowie started five games last year and was a projected starter at tackle in 2012. Horn started last season while Brown and Stewart were key starters for an already rebuilt offensive line.

Defensive line

Shawn Oakman (Penn State), D.J. Yendry (TCU), Nordly Capi (Colorado State), Anthony Laurenzi ( Washington State Cougars )

Yendry started all but one game last year while Laurenzi started all 12 games for Wazzu last season and contributed 25 tackles. Capi was first team all-conference and Oakman likely would have played significantly this season.

Linebacker

<img src= Storm Klein" data-canon="Storm Klein" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_PLAYER" id="shortcode0"> ( Ohio State Buckeyes State" data-canon="Ohio Bobcats" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" id="shortcode0">), Tanner Brock (TCU), Mike Orakpo ( Colorado State Rams )

Klein appeared in 38 games left Columbus with 10 starts under his belt in 2011. Orakpo had 87 tackles last season and is the younger brother of former Texas Longhorns All-American Brian Orakpo. Brock was the leading tackler the year TCU went to the Rose Bowl.

Defensive back

Tyrann Matheiu (LSU), Greg Reid ( Florida Gators State), Nick Brassell (Ole Miss), Devin Johnson (TCU)

Both Reid and Matheiu were considered by many to be preseason All-Americans with the Honey Badger returning as a Heisman finalist in 2011. Johnson had eight starts for a young TCU secondary while Brassell was a two-way standout in the SEC as a freshman.
