Report: Christian Hackenberg will start for Penn State
According to a report five-star freshman Christian Hackenberg will start at quarterback for Penn State on Saturday.
It looks like we might finally have an answer to the Penn State quarterback mystery.
According to a report from ESPN.com, freshman Christian Hackenberg will start for the Nittany Lions against Syracuse on Saturday. Penn State coach Bill O'Brien is yet to confirm who is starter will be but he has made it known that he and the team already know.
And if it is Hackenberg, it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise.
Hackenberg was the prize of Penn State's 2013 recruiting class, as he was ranked as the top pro-style quarterback by 247Sports.com. While the Nittany Lions also brought in junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson, whom Hackenberg had been competing with this summer, it's always been clear that Hackenberg was the future for Penn State.
So when you consider that the Nittany Lions aren't eligible for the postseason in 2013, it only makes sense that Bill O'Brien would start looking toward the future and getting Hackenberg some valuable experience under center now.
Though that doesn't mean Ferguson won't play on Saturday as well, as O'Brien has maintained that no matter who starts both quarterbacks would see some snaps.
