Report: Connor Brewer being wooed by Alabama, Notre Dame
Texas QB Connor Brewer gets his release, starts to ponder other schools.
Connor Brewer got a full release from his Texas football scholarship and is now receiving interest from schools such as Alabama and Notre Dame (among others), according to a report Wednesday from Arizona Central.
Word got out Tuesday that the redshirt freshman quarterback was set to leave Austin. The crowded Texas depth chart at quarterback was fingered as the likely cause of his exit, but it didn't take long before attention focused on where he would transfer.
Brewer, rated the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2012 by 247Sports, was offered by dozens of football programs from around the country coming out of high school, including the two closest to his home, Arizona and Arizona State.
Brewer said he is wide open to the recruiting. He will also look at the same schools who recruited him while he was leading Chaparral to three consecutive state championships, although it is still early to say where he might be leaning.
"I don't have a place in mind," said Brewer, who spent his first year in Texas last season as a redshirt. "Definitely (UA) could be a good place to go. It's still early, too soon to say where I'll end up."
