Report: FAU RB Travis Jones (academics) unlikely to rejoin team
Florida Atlantic's top kick returner has been removed from the team's roster, reportedly due to academic problems.
Florida Atlantic running back Travis Jones is unlikely to suit up for the Owls in 2013. The team's top kick returner reportedly will leave FAU before preseason camp due to the academic issues.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, citing sources close to the program, said Jones, redshirt freshman wide receiver Chris Gilcrist and redshirt freshman defensive back Adrian Burton are not expected to join the team in 2013. All three players have been removed from FAU's online roster, reportedly due to academic issues.
Jones was the Owls' primary punt and kickoff return man in 2012, averaging 20.1 yards per kick return. He also recorded 80 yards rushing and 117 receiving yards in a reserve role. Gilcrest and Burton never recorded a snap in their reportedly brief FAU career. Jones has one year of eligibility remaining, but the Sun-Sentinel did not include any details regarding the redshirt senior's plans beyond his departure.
Some quick research (googling) turned up an old YouTube video of Jones. In this 2009 edition of "FAU Cribz," our hosts check out what is, I assume, Jones' freshman year dorm room. I'll give Jones credit for his showmanship and camera presence, which could serve him well if he pursues a career beyond football.
