Report: Lane Kiffin meeting with Saban to discuss Alabama offense
Lane Kiffin is reportedly in Tuscaloosa this week to meet with Nick Saban and evaluate the Crimson Tide's offense.
Former USC coach Lane Kiffin will spend time with Nick Saban discussing the Alabama offense, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy.
Citing a source, McMurphy reports that Kiffin will visit Tuscaloosa this week "to share ideas and exchange ideas and [for] professional development."
While Kiffin is a free agent in the coaching community, the meeting does not necessarily mean that future employment is going to be a topic of conversation. Coaches frequently meet during down time in the football calendar to exchange ideas or simply "talk ball." Kiffin and Saban have both been prominent members of the coaching community long enough that this meeting is not a huge surprise.
However, the meeting is intriguing because Kiffin is a free agent. Alabama is not currently looking to fill an offensive position on the staff, but offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier has been mentioned as a possible candidate for head coaching jobs elsewhere. The Texas coaching search is expected to set the coaching carousel in motion again, so it would benefit Saban to consider possible replacements should Nussmeier leave Alabama.
