LSU has fired coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.
Ross Dellenger of the Baton Rouge Advocate first reported the firings, which were confirmed by CBS Sports and then announced by LSU later Sunday evening.
"Decisions like this are never easy ones to make," said athletic director Joe Alleva in a release announcing Miles' dismissal. "Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he's been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult.
"However, it's apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season haven't changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach [Ed] Orgeron will do just that."
Miles, who led the Tigers to three SEC West titles, two SEC championships and one national title, was in his 12th season with the program.
LSU also announced that defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has been named interim coach for the remainder of the season. It's a role Orgeron has served in previously at USC, where he led the Trojans to a 6-2 finish after replacing Lane Kiffin. Orgeron also spent three seasons coaching at Ole Miss from 2005-07; he went 10-25.
As for he dismissal of Miles, it does not come as much of a surprise despite the 2016 season only being four weeks old and LSU currently holding a 2-2 record.
While the Tigers are technically still in the hunt for the SEC West division crown with a 1-1 league record, it's important to remember that LSU came very close to letting Miles go at the end of last season before changing course and deciding to bring him back for the 2016 campaign.
What likely did Miles in is that 1-1 SEC record, which means he's dropped four of his last six conference games dating back to 2015.

Cameron following Miles out the door should not surprise anybody.
Miles brought Cameron to LSU for the 2013 season with hopes that the former NFL coordinator and head coach would improve the offense and help develop quarterbacks. Cameron really hasn't been able to do that during his tenure at LSU, but Miles never replaced him -- not even after Miles nearly lost his job last season due in large part to the Tigers' offense. Ultimately, he decided to remain loyal to Cameron, which no doubt helped ease Miles out the door in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
As for where LSU goes from here, it's hard to say. You have to think Houston's Tom Herman will be a name at the top of the list, but considering LSU's standing in the SEC and its history of winning, there's really no telling where the Tigers will turn next.
There are a lot of coaches who would like to take a crack at this job, and LSU knows that. Many believed Florida State's Jimbo Fisher was the Tigers' target should they have fired Miles last season.
Now, LSU will have plenty of time to try and find that replacement now that it can get started looking in September.
