Report: Matt Wells to replace Gary Andersen at Utah State
Matt Wells has been a member of the Utah State coaching staff since 2011, and was offensive coordinator in 2012.
Utah State did not need a lot of time to find a replacement for Gary Andersen.
According to Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune, Utah State will hold a press conference on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET to announce that offensive coordinator Matt Wells will replace Andersen. Andersen is leaving the school to take over at Wisconsin.
Wells joined the coaching staff at Utah State for the 2011 season as quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2012 season. Wells also played at Utah State, graduating in 1996 after spending three seasons as a quarterback.
It's hard to argue with the success that Utah State has had on offense since Wells returned to the school. The team's passing efficiency improved from 108.18 in 2010 to 151.93 in his first season coaching the quarterbacks. As offensive coordinator, Wells' offense averaged 34.9 points per game.
