Duke's chances this season just took a major hit, and the Blue Devils haven't played a game yet.

Quarterback Thomas Sirk is expected to miss the 2016 campaign after reinjuring his left Achilles tendon. The senior quarterback initially ruptured his left Achilles in February, had surgery and was expecting to make a comeback this fall.

Sirk suffered the injury during Thursday evening's practice and the injury was confirmed by Duke on Saturday.

This wouldn't be the first time Sirk's season has been in jeopardy because of an Achilles injury. Sirk missed the 2013 season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon. Last season, Sirk accounted for 3,428 total yards and 24 touchdowns. Obviously, losing him for any amount of time -- especially most, if not all, of the season -- would be a giant setback.

With Sirk recovering from his injury this offseason, redshirt freshman Daniel Jones had been getting more first-team reps in practice and is expected to start against N.C. Central in Saturday's season-opener.
