Rutgers CB Nadir Barnwell charged with DWI, suspended
Starting cornerback Nadir Barnwell was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday and suspended.
On Sunday Rutgers announced cornerback Nadir Barnwell has been suspended by the team for what coach Kyle Flood called a "violation of team rules." While the school did not comment on specifics, The Star-Ledger reports that Barnwell was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving early Sunday morning.
The 18-year-old was charged in his hometown of Piscataway, N.J.
For now Barnwell's suspension is for this week's game against Temple, but there's a chance it could last longer than one week.
"My plans are for it to be this week, but it's not finalized yet," Kyle Flood said.
Barnwell's absence could hurt the Rutgers defense quite a bit on Saturday. Barnwell has started at corner the last four games and now the Knights are currently down to four cornerbacks on the roster. Of those four remaining corners two are true freshmen and one is a redshirt freshman.
Rutgers has already had trouble stopping the pass this season as it is, as the Knights are ranked No. 123 in the country allowing 320.1 yards per game and No. 97 in defensive pass efficiency at 144.35.
