Saturday Viewer's Guide: Week 3

The Saturday Viewer's Guide is a helpful guide put together to maximize the results of your college football diet. Just enough to leave you feeling full but not so much that you spend your entire Sunday in the bathroom.

The menu this weekend isn't going to earn any Michelin stars. Frankly, there's just not all that much to make your mouth water. That being said, it's often the basic meals that taste the best. Just because there aren't many marquee matchups, that doesn't mean there aren't going to be some fantastic games.

BREAKFAST

#5 Florida State vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons - ESPN Noon ET

Is Florida State actually a top-five team, or is it just a team with high preseason expectations that has been gorging on cupcakes to start the season? While Wake isn't exactly a 32-ounce steak, it should give us a better idea of what this Seminoles team is really about. Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe talked about this matchup with Tim Brando.

#12 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. California Golden Bears - ABC Noon ET

The Big Ten got beat up by the Pac-12 last week, and now Ohio State will look to salvage a bit of pride for the conference. Cal hasn't exactly been impressive through two weeks, but a good showing in Columbus might turn things around.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. #13 Virginia Tech - ESPNU Noon ET

WARNING: Digesting Pittsburgh football might lead to violent projectile vomiting and urge to stab self in the eye with nearest blunt object. Proceed with extreme caution.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. #16 TCU Horned Frogs - FX Noon ET

TCU gets its official welcome to the Big 12 with its first conference game against Kansas. Which is the Big 12 equivalent of bringing somebody cash at their wedding.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Arkansas State - ESPN2 Noon ET

Nebraska will want to take out the frustration of its UCLA loss on Gus Malzahn's new team, but don't take Arkansas State lightly. In fact, Malzahn is all too happy to talk about his team.

LUNCH

Arkansas vs. #1 Alabama Crimson Tide - CBS 3:30pm ET

This game lost a bit of luster with Arkansas' loss to Louisiana-Monroe last week and the injury to quarterback Tyler Wilson , but it's still your first chance to listen to Uncles Vern and Gary call SEC football this season.

#19 Louisville Cardinals vs. North Carolina Tar Heels - ABC/ESPN2 3:30pm ET

If there's any team from the Big East that might matter on a national scale this season, it's probably going to be Louisville. Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals could grab some more attention with a win over the Tar Heels.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Virginia - ESPNU 3:30pm ET

This is a pretty important game for both teams. Virginia just squeezed past Penn State Nittany Lions last week and now begins conference play against a Georgia Tech team that's already 0-1 in the ACC and has no plans on being 0-2.

Northwestern Wildcats vs. Boston College Eagles - BTN 3:30pm ET

While the Big Ten is taking a deserved beating from other conferences and the national media, Northwestern finds itself off to a 2-0 start with wins over Syracuse and Vanderbilt. With Big East and SEC wins already under its belt, it now looks to add the ACC to its tally.

Penn State vs. Navy Midshipmen - ABC/ESPN2 3:30pm ET

Already off to an 0-2 start, Penn State finds itself in a must-win situation only three weeks into the season - before Big Ten conference play has began. If the Nittany Lions have any hopes of finishing 2012 with a winning record, this is one of those games they just can't afford to lose.

DINNER

#23 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #18 Florida - ESPN 6pm ET

What is easily the biggest game in the SEC since the loser could have a tough time winning the Eastern Division. Is Tennessee really a program on the rise, or will Florida once again have its way with its rivals to the north?

Missouri Tigers vs. Arizona State Sun Devils - ESPN2 7pm ET

Missouri lost its SEC debut against Georgia last week, but now we'll see if the Tigers truly have the resolve of an SEC team. That resolve being you destroy anybody who isn't an SEC team. It won't be easy, as the Sun Devils' offense looked very impressive against Illinois last Saturday.

#21 Stanford Cardinal vs. #2 USC - Fox 7:30pm ET

Admittedly, this series isn't as fun with Lane Kiffin and David Shaw in charge. They actually like one another, which couldn't be said for Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh. That being said, there are only a few Pac-12 teams that stand in the way of USC winning the South Division. Stanford is one of them.

#10 Michigan State Spartans vs. #20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish - ABC 8pm ET

The last time these teams met in East Lansing, Michigan State won on a fake field goal in overtime and Mark Dantonio literally had a heart attack. If there's half that drama in this year's version it will easily be the best game of the week.

LATE-NIGHT SNACKS

Ole Miss vs. #14 Texas Longhorns - ESPN 9:15pm ET

Ole Miss is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2009, which also happens to be the last time the Ole Miss Rebels went to a bowl. I'm not sure these things are actually related; it's just there haven't been many opportunities to say something positive about the program recently. I figured I'd get that in there while I could. You know, before Saturday night.

Utah Utes vs. #25 BYU - 10pm ET

What better way to end a long day than with a Holy War? BYU has only won this game once since 2008, but the Brigham Young Cougars look to be in the best position this season considering Utah already lost to Utah State last week.
