Georgia and Notre Dame are working to finalize a home-and-home series, according to a source, possibly for 2018-19.
Notre Dame's last SEC regular-season game was a 41-21 victory against Tennessee in 2005.
When reached Tuesday, Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity acknowledged verbal communication with Notre Dame about a potential series but stressed there’s no agreement in writing and, thus, no reason to get too excited.
McGarity added Georgia is always talking with schools about scheduling.
When asked about the 2018-19 dates, McGarity said meetings for later this decade have been discussed.
“I think it’d be great for the University of Georgia if we were able to make it happen,” McGarity said.
Notre Dame senior associate AD John Heisler said the dates for a potential Georgia series are open-ended and the school is not locked into 2018-19.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly sparked interest in August when he called Georgia a natural matchup for the Irish.
Notre Dame’s last SEC matchup was a 42-14 loss to Alabama in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.
Before that, the Irish lost 41-14 to LSU in the 2006 Sugar Bowl.
Notre Dame is 26-17 all time against the league.
