Taylor Martinez's brother, Drake, also going to Nebraska
Drake Martinez, a two-star athlete from Laguna Beach, Calif., commits to Huskers over Michigan State.
The Taylor Martinez era has only one season remaining in Lincoln, but the Martinez family era in Lincoln looks to have a few years left.
That's thanks to the news Wednesday that Bo Pelini and his staff had accepted the commitment of Laguna Beach, Calif., athlete Drake Martinez, Taylor's younger brother. The Martinezes' father, Casey, confirmed the Huskers' offer and Drake's commitment in a text sent to the HuskersIllustrated.
A three-star athlete who played both running back and safety for Laguna Beach High School, Drake (unsurprisingly) accepted the Huskers' offer over those from Michigan State and San Diego State. Though Martinez could eventually wind up at several different positions, he is expected to begin his Huskers career in the defensive backfield.
At 6 feet 2, 205 pounds, Martinez rushed for more than 1,600 yards on more than 10 yards per carry his senior year, finishing with 34 total touchdowns. Highlights:
Drake is the 23rd commitment of the Huskers' 2013 recruiting class, one currently ranked 21st nationally by the 247Sports composite rankings, and it may help Nebraska's recruiting momentum after previous commitments Dominic Walker and Marcus McWilson flipped to Auburn and (very likely) Kentucky, respectively.
