TCU QB Tyler Matthews to transfer
TCU quarterback Tyler Matthews is leaving Fort Worth.
Spring practices have -- for the most part -- come to an end in the last week, and it seems that some quarterback battles are leading to a cavalcade of transfers at the position. Wednesday brought with it the news that both Kentucky's Jalen Whitlow and Texas A&M's Matt Joeckel were transferring, and now TCU quarterback Tyler Matthews will be joining them on the transfer market.
247Sports first reported Matthews' transfer, and this tweet from Matthews on Wednesday morning corraborated the report.
Thankful for the opportunity I was given here at TCU, excited to see where this next chapter takes me!— Tyler Matthews (@TylerS_Matthews) April 16, 2014
Matthews was a four-star recruit out of Kansas that signed with the Horned Frogs in their 2012 class. Matthews was competing with Trevone Boykin for TCU's starting job this spring, but the Frogs will also bring in two more freshman quarterbacks this summer in Foster Sawyer and Grayson Muehlstein. So Matthews' departure leaves TCU a bit thin behind Boykin when it comes to experienced quarterback play.
Matthews appeared in only four games for TCU, failing to complete any of his three pass attempts. Matthews will have two years of eligibility remaining at his new school.
