Texas 's bid for a second straight Alamo Bowl championship took a blow Sunday when the Longhorns announced three players would be academically ineligible for the Dec. 30 matchup with No. 10 Oregon.

Among those three Longhorns are running backs Daje Johnson and Jalen Overstreet, the team's fifth- and sixth-leading rushers. With leading rusher Johnathan Gray out for the season via injury, Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron will be the only available scholarship tailbacks for the Longhorns.

Sophomore starting right tackle Kennedy Estelle was also declared ineligible, per the Associated Press. The three players will not make the trip to San Antonio.

The bowl will mark the second game Johnson will have missed for off-field reasons out of the Longhorns' past three. The sophomore punt returner and all-purpose offensive weapon was suspended for Texas's Thanksgiving win over Texas Tech for a violation of team rules.
