VIDEO: Steve Spurrier on Clowney not playing against Kentucky
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier told reporters that Jadeveon Clowney informed the staff he was not going to play just before the game against Kentucky.
South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is not the Heisman dark horse that many projected heading into the 2013 season. The Gamecocks' All-American has been limited by both injuries and scheme, failing to have an impact on the stat sheet and frequently appearing frustrated after disappointing performances.
Clowney was a late scratch from South Carolina's 35-28 win against Kentucky on Saturday, due to a rib injury that kept him out of practice during the week. According to head coach Steve Spurrier, the coaching staff was under the impression that Clowney was going to play against the Wildcats. That is, until Clowney said otherwise just before the game.
"He may not be able to play next week, I don't know," Spurrier said. "But we're not going to worry about it, I can assure you that. If he wants to play, we'll welcome him to come play for the team if he wants to. But if he doesn't want to play, he doesn't have to play. It's as simple as that."
Check out video below. Spurrier does not seem happy with how the season is unfolding for his star defensive end.
