Virginia Tech, Ohio State to kick off 2015 on Labor Day
Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver confirmed that the Hokies have agreed to play Ohio State on Labor Day night in Lane Stadium.
Virginia Tech and Ohio State's future home-and-home series, scheduled for 2014 and 2015, got upgraded with the announcement that the game in Blacksburg will be held on Labor Day night.
Hokies athletic director Jim Weaver confirmed on Tech Talk Live! that the Buckeyes return trip to Blacksburg will take place in the ACC's now-coveted Labor Day primetime slot with ESPN. According to the school's website, the initial date for the 2015 contest was Sept. 19. Moving the date will likely require Virginia Tech to move or back out of their scheduled contest with Furman.
Ohio State will host the first meeting in the series in Columbus on Sept. 20, 2014.
The Monday night game on college football's opening weekend was included as part of the ACC's most recent media rights deal with ESPN. This year, Pittsburgh will make its ACC debut by hosting Florida State in the Monday night showdown. Virginia Tech appeared in the game against Georgia Tech in 2012 (a 20-17 overtime win in Blacksburg) and Boise State in 2010 (a 33-30 loss at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.).
Lane Stadium references are occasionally accompanied with Enter Sandman videos. This is one of those times.
