Washington St. CB Daquawn Brown charged with assault
A potential starter for the Cougars, Daquawn Brown has been charged with two counts of assault after a fight in the campus student union.
Washington State cornerback Daquawn Brown was arrested last Friday in connection with an on-campus fight the previous weekend, the Associated Press reports, and charged with two counts of assault.
Citing campus police, the AP reports Brown stands accused of striking both a man and a woman during an argument that developed in the Washington State campus union. He is not currently in custody.
The arrest is the second for Brown already this year, with the rising sophomore booked in February on a charge of driving without a valid license. Brown's arrest also marks the fourth for the Cougars since the start of February, with defensive tackle Austin Brown also arrested last weekend on a third-degree theft charge and receiver Gabe Marks cited for misdemeanor assault in February.
The assault charges for Daquawn Brown -- one of which radio station KQQQ reported was a felony -- could cause a major headache for Mike Leach in his secondary. With both 2013 starters at corner having graduated, Brown has been considered a leading candidate to take over a starting job in 2014. The Los Angeles native played in all 13 games during his freshman season, finishing seventh on the team with 50 tackles and making two interceptions.
