It wouldn't be rivalry week without a bench-clearing shoving match, and that's exactly what happened between NC State and North Carolina.

The fight -- if you want to throw it under that umbrella -- started because of a bizarre play during NC State's offensive possession in the middle of the second quarter. Quarterback Ryan Finley's pass appeared to be completed to Matthew Dayes, who was then stripped of the ball. A scrum began as players from each side tried to recover the would-be fumble. Each time, the ball squirted out and advanced further downfield to about midfield.

Players from both sides dove on the ball. That's when the fight broke out. Tar Heels defensive tackle Jalen Dalton was ejected for throwing a punch.

Officials reviewed the play and concluded (correctly) that it was an incomplete pass as the receiver never had possession. To recap: there was a wild fumble with numerous chances of recovery, a fight and ejection ... all for an incomplete pass.

Rivalry week, man.
