Wisconsin DL David Gilbert transferring to Miami
After saying his college career was over due to foot injuries, David Gilbert will give it one more go, but he'll do so as a Miami Hurricane.
In April, Wisconsin defensive end David Gilbert said his career was over after suffering a series of foot injuries. Well it seems Gilbert might have spoken too soon.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel confirmed Friday that Gilbert is transferring from Wisconsin to Miami and he'll be eligible to play right away for the Hurricanes in 2013. Which is good news for a Miami team that could use some experience and depth on its defensive line.
Gilbert missed most of the 2011 season because of a broken right foot and it was announced that he'd miss spring practice this year after he needed surgery to repair ligament damage in the same foot. That was soon followed by Gilbert's decision to retire from football.
Gilbert appeared in 14 games for the Badgers last season, finishing with 42 total tackles, including 9 1/2 tackles for loss, four sacks and three forced fumbles. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
