Paul Tyson is a pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2019 who currently plays for Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham that is located about an hour drive away from Tuscaloosa where the University of Alabama is located.

Tyson also happens to be the great-grandson of legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant. So surely Tyson is destined to play for the Crimson Tide like everyone else in his family has done over the years, right?

Maybe not, according to AL.com.

This next sentence is going to seem inconceivable, but it’s true. The great grandson of Paul “Bear” Bryant is being coached by a former protege of Gus Malzahn, says he might consider going to Clemson and is visiting Notre Dame over spring break. College football recruiting is a crazy business in Alabama, but it has never seen anything quite like this.

Every single descendant of Paul Bryant has attended the University of Alabama, and now his first descendant with a chance to play college football is being courted by Alabama’s rivals.

“Growing up I was an Alabama fan, but now as I’m growing up and becoming more of an athlete and prospect I’d say I’m open to anybody,” Paul Tyson said. “Whoever has an interest in me.”

Yes, that’s right, the great-grandson of Bear Bryant is thinking about going to Clemson. You know, the team that just beat Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Maybe if Clemson doesn’t work out he’ll go to Notre Dame. According to his 247Sports profile, Tyson has received interest from Mississippi State and Southern Miss as well.

Of course, there’s a long way to go in Tyson’s recruitment process, and he’d be doing himself a disservice if he didn’t explore all the options at his disposal. That being said, can you imagine he doesn’t go to Alabama and ends up facing the Tide in a huge game at some point and then beats them?

What if Auburn gets involved?!

It’s a thought that should send a shiver down the spine of any self-respecting Alabama fan.
