WR Danny Woodson Jr. transferring from Alabama to South Alabama
Suspended Alabama wide receiver Danny Woodson Jr. will transfer to South Alabama and be eligible for the Jaguars in 2014.
"We're very excited about having Danny Woodson at South Alabama," Jones told Al.com on Monday. "I really admired his play in high school and we wanted him very badly out of high school. Of course we understood when he signed with Alabama. But we believe we have a potential All-America-type receiver coming here and we're obviously very excited.
"He is the kind of guy we have dreamed about getting in our program, and now that it has become a reality we are really excited about having him as a Jaguar."
Woodson will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2013 season, per NCAA transfer rules. He is the son of Danny Woodson Sr., who played quarterback at Alabama from 1990-91.
After sitting out the 2011 season, Woodson appeared in six games for the Crimson Tide. He recorded just one catch for nine yards during the 52-0 rout of Arkansas on Sept. 15. Alabama suspended Woodson for a violation of team rules in February and he did not participate with the team during spring practice.
Woodson was a four-star prospect coming out of LeFlore High School in Mobile, Ala. He was also recruited Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky and Texas Tech before committing to the Crimson Tide.
