Mississippi State hired Clemson assistant Rick Ray

Mississippi State has hired Clemson assistant Rick Ray.

Sources told CBSSports.com that Ray, who was previously an assistant at Purdue, will be introduced at a news conference on Monday.

Ray has been an assistant at Clemson the past two seasons and spent the previous four at Purdue.

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin wanted to change the image of the program and has tabbed Ray.

Ray has learned under four high-character head coaches: Clemson's Brad Brownell, Purdue's Matt Painter, former Indiana State coach Royce Waltman and ex-Northern Illinois coach Rob Judson.

Ray left Purdue to go to Clemson because the Boilermakers were unable to offer a comparable salary.

"He's a really good offensive mind," Purdue star Robbie Hummel said of Ray. "He's extremely intelligent and will be able to recruit."
