Sources: LSU hires North Texas' Johnny Jones

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

LSU has hired North Texas' Johnny Jones as its next head coach, sources told CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman.

A news conference will be held on Monday to announce the hiring.

Jones is a former LSU player and assistant under Dale Brown. He has been a head coach at North Texas since 2001, compiling a 205-162 record with the Mean Green. They have reached two NCAA tournaments under his watch. Jones was also the head coach at Memphis for one season before the Tigers hired John Calipari.

Jones will replace Trent Johnson, who left for TCU earlier this month.
