Murray State guard Zay Jackson was arrested on Sunday and charged with two counts of first-degree assault, Murray police told a TV station in Kentucky.
From WPSD 6, an NBC affiliate:
According to Murray Police, officers responded to an altercation in the Wal-Mart parking lot around 4 p.m. Officers said Jackson assaulted two people with his vehicle. Both victims suffered apparent minor injuries.
Needless to say, this isn't the start to the school year that Murray State coach Steve Prohm wanted, especially after a season in which the Racers won their first 23 games and finished 31-2.
Jackson is a 6-foot sophomore guard who averaged 4.9 points and 2.3 assists in 18.4 minutes off the bench last season. He was also one of the best on-ball defenders on the team, using his energy and aggressiveness to create problems for opponents.
While Murray State does return All-American guard Isaiah Canaan, the Racers are only bringing back one other starter, forward Ed Daniel. Jackson was expected to see an increase in minutes, and potentially start alongside Canaan in the backcourt.
